How is a DV certificate validated?
You prove control of the domain by adding a DNS record, uploading an HTTP file, or responding to an approver email. Once validation passes, the certificate is issued automatically.
Is DV encryption weaker than OV or EV?
No. DV, OV and EV all provide the same 256-bit TLS encryption. The only difference is the level of identity vetting the Certificate Authority performs, not the cryptographic strength.
When should I choose DV?
Choose DV when you need HTTPS quickly and inexpensively and don't need your company name shown in the certificate - for example blogs, small sites, APIs and test environments.
